Ruddersafe provides significantly improved maneuverability at low speeds.

The perfect solution for steering problems with boats!

Almost all boats with outboard motors or stern drives experience poor maneuverability at low speeds. Fortunately, there is now a definitive and effective original solution: Ruddersafe. It's no wonder it's also known as 'Columbus's Egg' or 'The Double Rudder' for your boat.

Optimal Maneuverability

Thanks to the Ruddersafe's rudder blades located behind the propeller, your boat's steering capacity is significantly increased. This results in optimal maneuverability, even when the engine is turned off and when driving in both forward and reverse. Discover how Ruddersafe can improve your boating experience.

Reduced Fuel Consumption

Ruddersafe not only provides better maneuverability in marinas, locks, and narrow waterways but also when maneuvering in and out of moorings. Moreover, the greatly improved course stability of Ruddersafe leads to a reduction in fuel consumption.

Greatly Improved Course Stability

By using Ruddersafe, it is hardly necessary to constantly make course corrections at low speeds, which provides a relaxed and enjoyable boating experience and stability of the course.

High and Low Speeds

With Ruddersafe, both rudder blades are lifted out of the water by water pressure on the trim tabs at higher speeds, avoiding oversteering and speed loss. In addition, the adjustable spring mechanism ensures that the double rudder automatically returns to its original position as the boat's speed and water pressure decrease. This provides a comfortable and safe boating experience.

Protective Function

The Ruddersafe auxiliary rudder also has a protective function when reversing, protecting the propeller against damage and minimizing the risk of contact with the propeller blades for swimmers or divers. This is another advantage of the Ruddersafe.

Easy Installation

The Ruddersafe can be easily attached to the motor's cavitation plate without special tools or drilling. In addition, the Ruddersafe is delivered in a handy DIY package with assembly instructions.

Minimal Maintenance

By using corrosion-resistant and rust-free materials, the maintenance of the Ruddersafe is kept to a minimum. Lubricating the tilt mechanism during normal engine maintenance guarantees years of carefree boating pleasure.

Application of Ruddersafe Volvo Penta Types on Boats

For Volvo Penta 280/290 engines **

Ruddersafe - Volvo Penta 280/290 Type 2 (Ref. 16520):
suitable for boats with a length of up to about 6.50 meters (21 ft)
Ruddersafe - Volvo Penta 280/290 Type 3 (Ref. 16530):
suitable for boats with a length of up to about 8.50 meters (28 ft)
Ruddersafe - Volvo Penta 280/290 Type 4 (Ref. 16540):
suitable for boats with a length of 8.50 meters (28 ft) and longer

** The above Volvo Penta 280/290 Ruddersafe models are supplied with a special bracket for mounting over the exhaust (see image below). However, the brackets are not included with this model. This is because it is an unnecessary component for attachment to boats with Volvo Penta engines.
