Important: tighten the brackets by hand
Always tighten the bolts of the Ruddersafe brackets by hand with an ordinary spanner, never with a power tool (no cordless drill or impact wrench) and not too tight. Overtightening can damage the brackets or make them break. Firm is firm.
Step by step: installing Ruddersafe in 5 steps
- Kontrollera din typStandard Type 2 (boats up to 6.5 m), Type 3 (up to 8.5 m) or Type 4 (8.5 m and longer), or a Volvo Penta Type for a Z-drive.
- Ladda ner manualenPick the manual in your language above and keep the drawings at hand.
- Montera fästenaClamp the brackets onto the motor bracket or cavitation plate. Nothing is drilled: everything is held by the supplied bolts and nuts. Tighten the bolts by hand, never with a power tool and not too tight.
- Montera roderbladetMount the rudder blade on the brackets and set the spring tension as described in the manual. The spring decides when the blades give way at higher speed.
- Provkör vid låga varvSail slowly forward and in reverse. Your boat now holds its course; adjust the tension slightly if needed.

Frequently asked questions about installation
Vilka verktyg behöver jag för att installera Ruddersafe?
Only an ordinary open-end or ring spanner. You do not need a drill, special tools or technical knowledge. Installation takes about 20 minutes on average.
Hur hårt ska jag dra åt fästbultarna?
By hand, with an ordinary spanner, until the brackets sit firmly. Never use a power tool (no cordless drill or impact wrench) and do not overtighten: the brackets can be damaged or break. Firm is firm.
Måste jag borra hål i min båt eller motor?
No. Ruddersafe clamps onto the existing motor bracket of your outboard. Nothing needs to be drilled into the boat, the cavitation plate or the engine.
Kan jag ta bort Ruddersafe igen, till exempel vid vinterförvaring?
Yes. Ruddersafe can be removed and refitted in a few minutes, without leaving marks or damage.
Vad händer om fästena inte passar min utombordsmotor?
Contact us before you buy and tell us the make, model and year of your engine. We will check whether Ruddersafe fits and advise you on the right version.
Finns det en separat manual för Volvo Penta 280/290?
Yes. The Volvo Penta types are fitted with a special bracket over the exhaust. They have their own manual, which you can download above in twelve languages.
